Pregnancy Beauty – Everything You Need to Know

Pregnancy can cause many changes to your body, skin and mind.

The hormones changing in your body mean you will probably have heightened emotions, both positive and negative. You will probably swing between these emotions.

Take some time to indulge and engage in self-care; self-love is also best for your baby.90% of women experience some pregnancy-related skin changes. Don’t stress, the following MDSUN products are safe and recommended by Dr. George Sun for pregnancy and postpartum care.

Increase Mom-To-Be Glow

  • Stay hydrated: Drink 1.9 – 2.8 liters of water daily
  • Hydrate your skin: Apply serum and moisturizer to strengthen skin barrier and revive skin cells.
  • Wear sunscreen: Protect skin from UVA, UVB and HEV light that cause sunburn and premature aging.

Ingredients to avoid

Retinoids: Typically treat acne or offer anti-aging treatments, but can cause significant birth defects. Avoid any vitamin A derivatives, such as retinol, Retin-A and isotretinoin.

Hydroquinone: Helps lighten the skin and is commonly used in creams for hyperpigmentation, dark spots or melasma. Moms-to-be and their babies absorb hydroquinone at high rates (35% to 45%), which is concerning. While there are no links between hydroquinone and severe birth defects, it is not worth the risk.

Formaldehyde: This ingredient was formerly used in beauty products. It is a known carcinogen and causes infertility and miscarriages. Avoid DMDM hydantoin, Bonopol and quaternium-15.

Phthalates: Everyone should avoid phthalates. Many cosmetics contain phthalates, which negatively impact thyroid and sex hormones. Phthalates cause preeclampsia, maternal glucose disorders, preterm birth and birth defects. Watch out for diethylphthalate (DEP).
